DTF Transfer Application Guide

Applying your DTF transfers correctly is just as important as preparing your artwork. At DTF Prints Florida, we want you to achieve the best results with every press. Follow these step-by-step instructions to ensure your transfers look vibrant, durable, and professional.

What You’ll Need

  • A heat press machine (we do not recommend household irons)

  • Teflon sheet or parchment paper

  • Garment (cotton, polyester, blends, fleece, canvas, etc.)

  • Your DTF transfer from DTF Prints Florida

Step 1: Pre-Press the Garment

  • Place your garment on the heat press.

  • Pre-press for 3–5 seconds to remove wrinkles and moisture.

  • This creates a smooth surface for your transfer.

Step 2: Place the Transfer

  • Position the transfer film on the garment (design facing down).

  • Use heat-resistant tape if needed to keep it from shifting.

Step 3: Press the Transfer

  • Set your heat press to:

    • Temperature: 300–325°F

    • Pressure: Medium to firm

    • Time: 10–15 seconds

  • Press evenly to ensure full transfer of the design.

Step 4: Peel the Film

  • Allow the transfer to cool for a few seconds.

  • Carefully peel the film (varies depending on the transfer type — hot peel or cold peel).

  • If any part of the design hasn’t adhered, press again for a few seconds.

Step 5: Final Press (Recommended)

  • Place a Teflon sheet or parchment paper over the design.

  • Re-press for 5–7 seconds to lock in the transfer.

  • This improves wash durability and creates a smooth finish.

Washing & Care Instructions

  • Turn garments inside out before washing.

  • Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle.

  • Avoid bleach and harsh detergents.

  • Tumble dry on low heat or hang dry.

  • Do not iron directly over the transfer.

Common Application Mistakes to Avoid

❌ Using a home iron (not enough pressure or consistent heat).
❌ Skipping the pre-press step (causes moisture issues).
❌ Peeling the film too quickly (may lift parts of the design).
❌ Not applying enough pressure (leads to weak adhesion).

Quick Checklist Before Pressing ✅

  • Heat press set to 300–325°F

  • Pre-pressed garment for 3–5 seconds

  • Medium to firm pressure for 10–15 seconds

  • Peel carefully (hot or cold peel depending on transfer)

  • Final press with Teflon sheet for 5–7 seconds
